You can now buy, hold and sell tokenized stocks from the Exa App, alongside the rest of your digital assets. Tokenized stocks are issued by Coinbase on the Base network and track shares of US-listed companies such as Apple, Tesla, NVIDIA, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta and Alphabet.
What is a tokenized stock?
A tokenized stock is a token on Base whose value tracks a real share one-to-one. According to Coinbase, each token is a beneficial claim on a real share held in regulated, bankruptcy-remote custody, separate from Coinbase itself.
Keep in mind what you hold is the token, not the share itself. That means:
You get the price exposure of the stock, but not shareholder rights such as voting.
Dividends and corporate actions are handled according to the issuer's (Coinbase's) terms.
You can trade 24/7, including weekends and US market holidays, because the token lives on a blockchain and not on a stock exchange.
How to buy or sell tokenized stocks
Tokenized stocks are traded through the Swap feature in your Exa App, powered by LI.FI on decentralized networks. The Exa App is a self-custodial wallet: the tokens are held in your own wallet, not by Exa.
Open the Exa App and go to Swap.
Choose the asset you want to pay with (for example, USDC) and select the tokenized stock you want to buy. Only the official Coinbase-issued tokens are listed.
Review the quote. The amount you receive already reflects the swap route, network costs and current market conditions.
Confirm the swap. The tokens appear in the Tokenized stocks section of your Portfolio once the transaction is complete.
To sell, follow the same steps in reverse: select the tokenized stock as the asset you are paying with and the asset you want to receive. Exchanging one tokenized stock for another is also done through Swap.
Why do I see a price impact warning?
Some tokenized stocks have limited onchain liquidity. When that is the case, the swap may execute at a price noticeably different from the current market price. The app shows a warning and asks you to acknowledge it before continuing. Before confirming, check the quoted amount and, if the difference is too large for you, try a smaller amount or wait for better conditions.
Where do I see my tokenized stocks?
Your holdings appear in the Tokenized stocks section of your Portfolio, separate from your collateral assets and other digital assets. Tokenized stocks live on the Base network, so they also appear when you send or receive assets on Base.
Can I use tokenized stocks as collateral for my Exa Card?
Not at the moment. Tokenized stocks do not earn yield and do not count as collateral for card purchases, installments or Exa Loans. Only the assets accepted by Exactly Protocol (USDC, ETH, WBTC, OP) act as collateral. If you need funds to cover a payment, you can sell tokenized stocks through Swap and deposit the proceeds as collateral.
Things to keep in mind
Tokenized stocks are volatile and their value can go down as well as up. The Exa App does not provide investment advice.
Only the official Coinbase-issued tokens are listed in the app. Other tokens on Base may use a company's name without being backed by real shares. Do not buy "stock" tokens from unverified sources.
Swaps are executed on decentralized networks and cannot be reversed once confirmed.
You are responsible for any tax obligations arising from trading tokenized stocks in your jurisdiction.
If you have questions about a specific swap, contact us through the app's support chat with the transaction details and we will help you.
